Inverness-based MIME Technologies wins £80K to stay on the frontline of digital health.

MIME Technologies, one of Scotland’s innovative Med-tech companies, developing mobile technologies for first response has won £80,000 and a trip to Silicon Valley from Scottish EDGE round 10 awards. A total of 20 entrepreneurs pitched to a high calibre panel of judges, chaired by ASOS chairman Brian McBride and including James Watt from BrewDog. The competition, backed by Scottish Entrepreneur Sir Tom Hunter is designed to provide grants and awards to support Scotland’s up and coming talent, with the prize pot totaling £1.3 million.

MIME Technologies is the Highland regions first academic spin-out company. The company develops wireless technology to help first responders on-scene and is uniquely designed for out of hospital environments, with the capacity to capture and share the real-time vital signs of a patient. The team has a background in medicine, physiology and computing science and are working with a range of clients in pre-hospital care settings.

Dr Alasdair Mort, founder and CEO of MIME Technologies described how the prize money would support the company: “MIME aims to revolutionise the quality of pre-hospital care data and vastly improve those first responding organisations plagued by pen and paper recording. The Scottish EDGE award is truly pivotal for us. It means we can increase our team and engineer our software to work on any mobile device around the world.”

Mime Technologies is supported by Highlands & Islands Enterprise (HIE) who said "We are delighted to hear that MIME Technologies have won. The standard of competition is always very high for these prestigious awards. We have supported MIME Technologies to develop as they expand further and move into new international markets, bringing jobs and economic value to our region. The Scottish EDGE is a celebration of innovation and ambition and gives the finalists invaluable experience in order to move their businesses forward.”
